WE HAVE QUESTIONED

Ing. Pavol Hajla, WAC '98 Flight Director.
The voice that you can hear in the area of the airport belongs to Mr. Hajla. We have visited him at the "glass-house" of the Trenčín airport tower and he has readily answered to several questions.
What does your duty at WAC '98 consist of?
In co-operation with another three persons, who are moving around the area of the airport, we are providing fluent traffic, order and continuity of flights while monitoring weather conditions.
Aren't you bored after the whole day spent in this "glass-house"?
No, we are very busy, controlling flights and I also watch performances of pilots.
Are you an active pilot?
Yes, I fly sport aircrafts.

Emergency Landing

On Tuesday, the 18th of August, there was an accident at the Trenčín airport. It was during the flight number 54, which was performed by a representative of Kazakhstan - Mr. Sergey Boriak. The ailerons (right plywood structure, securing the aileron) on his Extra 300 S (N25EX) became jammed during unknown sequence - figure 7. Both of them were stuck in the up position, therefore the airplain could not move to the right. The airplain was beyond control and in the first moments the pilot, considering the high level of intractability, was decided to leave the machine. After a while he tried to gain greater altitude. Once successful, he decided to start an emergency landing, which had elapsed without a major complication. Luckily, there was no fatal accident, thanks to the skill of the pilot and facile reaction of the navigating staff, providing the flight operation. It is suitable to thank to all the people who have helped in this incident. Mr. Sergei Boriak will continue the competition.
The Result of the Technical Inspection:
At inspection was found that the right plywood structure securing the aileron belcrank to the carbonfiber wing skin had broken loose. This part being loose to move freely inside, allowed the right aileron to stick in the up position. The movement of the loose part is suspected to break away the top right trailing edge from the belcrank inboard approximately 25 inches. The top skin also broken away from the 1st inboard rib from the trailing edge forward to unknown distance.

The Pilots and the Zombies

The beautiful evening at the Trenčín castle, which was prepared for the participants of the World Aerobatics Championship, was an unforgettable event for all the guests. The happening was opened by the first official world aerobatic champion ever - Mr. Ladislav Bezák (champ. of the world in the 1960). His speech was an introduction to the all night long entertainment. During the night show, the pilots were accompanied by ghosts and zombies residing in the castle. There was also a show of historical fencing performed by Wagus group. A nice outlook gratified visitors who managed to climb up the castle tower. The happening at the castle was another interesting event to thank the organisers for.

The First Master of the Guild

A historic moment in the aerobatic competition came into being on Sunday, the 4th of September 1960 at the airport of Vajnory, near Bratislava. General director of FAI H.P. Gillman decorated the first official world champion Ladislav Bezák. We would like to thank him for veteran representation of Slovak aerobatic sport in all over the world.
